A simple strategy to feel more rested every day
When it comes to being exhausted, scattered, and overwhelmed as an entrepreneur, it can be easy to accept that those feelings simply “come with the territory” in order to grow a business. But so many of the women that I’ve worked with reach a tipping point — a time when they know that the way they’re living and working simply isn’t sustainable anymore.
However, once they decide that something needs to change it can be hard to know how to change those default habits, and start making changes that will make a difference in their lives.
That’s exactly why I like to start with the basics: SLEEP.
Getting enough sleep each night is one of the most essential forms of self-care, allowing you to show up as your best self in both life and business. Because if you’re not feeling well-rested, it’s harder to serve your clients, customers, and even relationships from a genuinely caring place.
But you may be thinking that at least eight hours of sleep is already a non-negotiable for you, yet you can’t shake the feeling that you’re always tired, unable to catch up on sleep.
And for that, I find that consistency is often the missing link.
Studies show that going to bed and waking up at the same time each day reinforces your circadian rhythm (your internal clock) so that you sleep better and have more energy in your day-to-day. And yes, believe it or not, that means on weekends too.
While it may sound too simple to make a difference, those are exactly the kind of shifts I encourage — small tweaks that make a big difference in your everyday life.
Ready to give this strategy a try in your own life? Next week, aim for a consistent bedtime and wake up call each day. I’m not saying that it will be easy (in fact, the first day is usually kinda rough!) but do what you can to resist that snooze button and commit to this change.
I’ve found the “Bedtime” setting on my iPhone to be a helpful tool in this transition. I receive a pop-up notification to remind me that it’s time to head to bed and the same tool sets a consistent alarm clock for me each day.
You’ll be amazed at how much more energy you’ll have after only a few days of practicing this strategy. You might even start waking up BEFORE the alarm clock (gasp!).
