Selling is actually super simple (here's how to make it work for you!)

Selling is actually really simple.

I know, I know.

Hearing that makes you want to roll your eyes HARD.

Like really. The same way you do when your friend Jessica just tells you she “just has a really fast metabolism” while popping that chili cheese fry in her mouth.

Or when that gal in yoga class touts that “sunshine really IS the best medicine” in a way that makes you wonder exactly what else she must be on and how you get your hands on THAT instead.

I’m kidding. Kind of. It’s been a while since I’ve been to a yoga class.

But there’s no denying that it sounds almost a little too good to be true.

Like, wouldn’t it be great if the internet could make up its mind already??

We’ve got “Team Hustle” declaring that you’ve got to grind your way to success. Sleep less. Work more. Go harder. Hustle it out. You’ve got to spend money to make money. I mean you didn’t really think this whole entrepreneur thing would be THAT easy, did you??

While “Team Fun + Ease” is over here wondering why everyone thinks business has to be so hard. Focus on your energy. Do what feels good. Let it be easy, they say. And yet somehow that approach leaves you wondering why a copious amount of money isn’t flowing into your bank account like Niagra Falls at this point.

And it’s all enough to make you wonder… what gives? Leaving you bouncing back and forth between those two approaches faster than a ping pong ball on spring break.

I mean you can’t seriously tell me that the paradox of these two philosophies hasn’t occurred to you once or twice, can you?

To be honest, I believe the truth lies somewhere in between. When my Future You clients work with me they show up more in their business than ever before, and FROM an energy of fun, alignment, and ease.

Which, of course, brings me to sales. (You didn’t really think I’d be able to get through this whole post without talking about my favorite topic, did you?)

Ohhhh, how our brains love to tell us selling is hard. That it’s got to be a struggle. That we’re only justified in people paying us because “we put in the time” and “worked really hard for it.”

As if we’re somehow trying to convince ourselves that we’re worthy to receive money as the answer to a question that no one is actually asking.

Stop and think for a second… how many millionaires do you know walking around telling you how “hard” they worked for that money—justifying why they’re worthy of it? And if they are? They probably aren't enjoying that million too much, are they?

I think you’d be hard-pressed to find one talking about how hard it is AND reaping all the benefits and rewards. Because it’s simply not a question. It’s an expectation. It’s a way of BEING.

So play this out… what if instead of trying to convince yourself how hard it is to sell, you started believing that it was actually super simple??

Because it IS super simple.

And this week I’m sharing exactly how to stop self-sabotaging your sales and make it work for you.

Pick an offer and stick to it

I really do get it and I have SOOO been there.

But I’d be willing to bet that the reason you’re not making the sales you want has very little to do with your offer.

So if you find yourself getting caught up on tweaking your offers for the 15th time this week, this is your friendly, neighborhood mindset coach popping in to invite you to cut that sh!t out.

This is far easier to see outside of online business so hypothesize with me for a second here…

Imagine you’re a pizza owner, opening up a thin crust pizza shop. You’ve tried countless thin-crust recipes and you finally have one you’re excited about. You open your doors, excited to share your amazing creations with the world.

And yet, week one, no one enters to shop.

You convince yourself that people just aren’t that into thin crust pizza. Deep dish is where it’s at. Buuuutttttt your specialty isn’t in deep dish so you take a 6-week long culinary class to learn how to make the perfect deep dish. You’re SO excited. You can hardly wait to fling open the doors and share this deep dish pizza with the world. You even set up signs showing how the line will form around the block because you KNOW people will come from near and far to get a slice.

Two weeks go by… and still, no one comes to purchase a slice.

Disheartened, you catch wind of a new fancy wood-fired pizza oven. “THIS IS IT,” you think to yourself, “This will be the thing people want.” If only you could find a way to get that pizza oven, THEN this business would finally work (or so you think!).

But the reality is, it actually has zero to do with the pizza—or your offer, in the case of online business—in the first place. The problem was never the thin crust pizza but that you weren’t out there marketing it so that everyone near and far knew how amazing it was and wanted a slice.

Your offer was actually amazing the first time around, you just didn’t have the mindset you needed to stick with it, consistently market it, and actually sell it!

I see this happen ALL the time in online business but I’m so glad we’re having this convo because the way I see it, this is actually amazing news!

I mean, it’s actually far more fulfilling to learn how to sell the thing you have than to keep creating new and different things without making any sales along the way, right!?

Right.

So instead of feeling like you need to keep tweaking your offers, adding new ones, or shifting your business entirely… stop, drop, and journal. Yes, really.

Ask yourself, if it isn’t your offer that’s the problem, what is it that you ACTUALLY need to solve for? (Hint: it’s usually marketing or sales!) And then go solve for that instead!!

Tell the people why they want it

I’ll be honest, the last product I recommended to a friend was a seamless thong from Bombas. Look, I’ve never been much of a thong person. Perhaps, TMI but hey, we’re all friends here.

But I wasn’t just like, “It’s good, you should get it.”

I told her EXACTLY what it was that I loved about it.

“It doesn’t ride up, the waistband doesn’t roll, it hasn’t shrunk in the wash,” I gushed on and on.

The product wasn’t even mine and yet all my energy was behind telling her how amazing it was.

But the thing is, I wasn’t trying to convince her either. I already KNEW that if it had been THAT life-changing for me, then it couldn’t help but make her life better too.

I didn’t NEED her to buy it. There was no attachment there. And because of that, of course, she’s even more likely to go and make a purchase.

The way I see it, we all need to add a dash of “life-changing thong energy” to our sales process.

Yes, I said it and I stand by it.

Think back to the last time you recommended a product to a friend. No I mean really, take a second and think about it, I’ll wait.

Ok, got it? Good. Now, think about the language that you used around it. Is it anything NEAR what you bring to your own sales process?

Look, no shame here, this is all amazing information to have!

BUT if you felt like you didn’t really talk about how amazing your offer really is, felt a little too much like you were trying to convince them to buy, OR felt really attached to the outcome, then that is an amazing place to start when it comes to mindset work.

Because the clearer YOU are on that, the better you can communicate it to your people and consequently the more sales you’ll convert because of it.

Sell it, then sell it again (it gets easier!)

Look, I learned to ski as an adult and I’ll be the first to tell you that sh!t ain’t easy.

I envied the 5-year-olds in ski school that bounced up faster than a rubber ball while I soothed my tailbone in epsom salt baths for weeks after a fall.

And yet, every Thursday morning I would wake up early, drive to the mountain, and fall on my a** again and again only to nurse my ego with a bloody mary in the lodge after class.

All because I held the belief that one day it WOULD get easier. I would learn how to ski.

And the same is true for you when it comes to sales IF you stick with it. You will learn how to sell in a way that feels good.

Seriously, I used to break out in hives at the thought of sales calls and now they’re literally one of my favorite things in my business.

And yet when I was in THAT place…

You know, the sweaty palms, voice quivering, wondering how this was ever going to work, place…

It was really difficult for me to see how this uncomfortable action was ever going to be something that I actually ENJOYED doing.

And yet, I kept doing it.

Not because I really enjoyed the struggle—though, from the stories I just told you, I totally get why you’d think that—but because I knew that I was getting better at it.

Look, I think there’s a big misconception in the online space that business is supposed to feel easy ALL the time and if it doesn’t, well then you’re doing something wrong. But I just don’t think that’s the case.

What I’ve found to be true is that SO much ease comes through repetition.

Doing the thing once, and then doing it again and again, until it’s no longer a thing you have to think about but rather a part of who you are.

That’s what I’ve found to be true in skiing, that’s what I’ve found to be true in sales calls, and that’s what I know you’ll find to be true IF you pick one offer, one sales strategy, and sell it again and again until it FEELS easy.

The bottom line:

Our brains LOVE to overcomplicate sales as if we’re somehow more worthy of money and success if it feels difficult to achieve. But this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Sales is actually super simple (I just gave you so many of my best tips above!), and the more you lean into that belief the better it will feel to sell and the easier it will be to convert.

If you find yourself overcomplicating sales in one of the ways I’ve mentioned here (or something else entirely!) then I would absolutely love to support you on my free 30-minute Sincere Sales coaching call.

Together, we’ll do a deep dive on your biggest mindset challenge around sales and talk about how to shift it so you can see more results.
