The mindset I'm bringing to 2021 ✨ (PART 2)
Pre-S: In my last post, I shared my biggest takeaways from 2020 and how despite the challenges this year threw at me, it was my absolute best year in business. I’m continuing that conversation today, but if you haven’t checked out PART 1, you’ll want to be sure you don’t miss out on that juicy goodness here!
—
A little over a year ago, I wrote myself a “manifestation check” for the amount of money I was ready to receive in my business.
You can trust that I’m being 100% honest when I say that at the time, it felt SO. FAR. AWAY.
I couldn’t see how it was ever going to happen for me (spoiler alert: it did—but keep reading to find out how).
It felt like an immense amount of work and clients from where I was then to where I wanted to be. (Maybe you’re there now?)
And yet, I knew that those were the exact thoughts that were standing in my way from actually making it happen.
You see, I’m a big fan of detaching from exactly HOW our dreams, desires, and goals are going to show up for us.
But over here on team human being, that’s also where many of us seem to get tripped up.
We want to know the exact steps to take that are going to get us where we want to go.
It’s only natural to want to know the exact recipe for success, but what I’ve found to be true is that entrepreneurship really doesn’t work that way.
It’s a bit less like baking a cake with a proven recipe in hand and a bit more like building the recipe from scratch, day-after-day, each day a little closer to the result you’re looking for.
Is it work? Absolutely.
Are there ways to make it more enjoyable along the way? 100%.
And in the end, can you trust that you’ll end up with a recipe that is entirely your own and you actually like the taste of? YES. And that’s kinda the whole point.
Baking analogies aside, 2020 was that journey for me.
It was a year of taking action in alignment with what I wanted and trusting that it would bring me closer to my financial goals (and it did!). I manifested the exact amount of money on that manifestation check and then proceeded to have consistent income months for 6 months after, and still going strong.
It was a year of reprogramming the thoughts that told me that I wasn’t good enough to get the results that I wanted (I am) and that it needed to be a struggle (it didn’t).
It was a year of learning to have fun and enjoy the process of BUILDING the business and not wait until some arbitrary milestone to actually live into and fully enjoy all that I’ve created.
And I want that for you too.
I want you to have the business that you love—one that you find profitable and fulfilling. Not only that, but I’m here to support you in creating it and from my own experience of manifesting my exact monetary goal and helping clients do the same... I know a few things that WORK.
With that, I wanted to share a few of my favorite lessons from 2020 and the mindset I’m bringing into 2021. Because what I know to be true is that no matter HOW it happens for you—mindset is the key to taking more of the right actions in your business so you can own your expertise, gain visibility, and close more sales to make this your best year in business yet!
The inner work is some of the hardest but most worthwhile work that you’ll do
Stop tweaking your offers. Stop trying to automate the “perfect” workflow. Stop redoing your pdf for the millionth time. Stop buying course after course after course that only leaves you more confused.
I’m serious.
One of the biggest struggles I’ve had (and the thing I see come up most often with Future You clients) is that we go deeper on the things that feel safe and comfortable like the things I mentioned above, rather than doing the mindset work to take actions that are UNcomfortable but bring us closer to our goals.
And really that’s just our brain doing what brains do—their number one job is to keep us safe. But when it comes to business, that craving for safety can also keep us from showing up in our business in a whole new way and consequently seeing more results.
Personally, one of those results that I wanted was to feel more at ease in my business. But it was also the thing I’ve been stuck in a long-term pattern of fighting (ironic, right!?).
That’s why the inner work is some of the hardest but most worthwhile work you’ll do as a business owner because it’s the work that breaks the old patterns that are keeping you stuck and helps you to take more uncomfortable actions that yield results.
For me, this has meant reprogramming the belief that “work needs to be a struggle or it isn’t worth as much” to leaning into a whole lot more fun, flow, alignment, and ease in my business.
But this isn’t just work I’ve done once. It’s work I do again, and again, and again.
It’s the work I do every time I have the urge to “just push through and get it done.”
It’s the work I do when I start to want to add one more strategy into the mix instead of going deeper on the ones I already have.
It’s the work I do when I feel like there are more offers I’d like to add or more projects I’d like to create.
You see, mindset work isn’t something you do once and you’re done. It’s a constant evolution.
But the good news is, that once you know what your patterns are, they’re easier to spot and easier to shift, and consequently easier to see new, better, and different results.
Gratitude shifts things FAST
I’m the happiest I’ve EVER been in any job or business I’ve ever had.
Heck, I’m the happiest I think I’ve ever been in LIFE right now.
But I think it would be so easy to chalk all that happiness up to having my best year in business… and I can tell you that being on the other side of that, that’s not it.
Sure, it feels amazing, but I also know that if it was not for the mindset work that I’ve done to be grateful for what was in front of me at any given moment, I would not have even allowed myself to ENJOY and celebrate hitting that monetary milestone.
I would already be on my way to the next thing and frustrated I wasn’t there yet.
And that, right there is where gratitude comes in.
I think creating a gratitude practice is tossed around so often that it almost feels cheesy and easily dismissed, but let me tell you: This sh*t works.
Gratitude is what allowed me to keep my mindset in check and continue working and supporting clients during this global pandemic (and have my best year in biz!).
It helped me to place my focus on how grateful I was that my business was already BUILT for remote work and that I didn’t have to make any major changes to my business model.
That while everyone else was learning how to work zoom for the first time or find their rhythms in work-from-home, I had been doing that for years.
It was what allowed me to support clients in keeping their mindset in check and having THEIR best years in business during this time, rather than dwelling in the uncertainty.
I’m not saying don’t feel your feelings and I’ve certainly had my fair share of rough days this year… but I AM saying that when we can focus more on what we DO have than what we don’t, it allows us to show up for ourselves and our business in a completely different way.
And that energy is far easier to create amazing results from than that of scarcity and lack.
Taking care of YOU is the most important thing
This year has taught me that taking care of ME is the most important thing.
There was a time when “focusing on feeling good” would have been something that I brushed off because I believed the hard work and struggle was a requirement for a successful business.
“That’s nice,” I would have thought to myself, “but we’re here to get things done.”
I used to worry that if it felt good to be in my business and I was choosing better-feeling thoughts all the time that I simply wouldn’t get anything done.
I’d float off to airy-fairy land where nothing would get done and no results would be seen.
I was convinced that I actually relied on the pressure and the struggle to be the driving force.
But I’ve actually found the opposite to be true.
This year has shown me again and again how it’s actually the MOST important thing when it comes to running my business.
Because the more I take care of myself, the better able I am to take care of clients.
The more I take care of myself, the more I bring that energy to sales calls, and the better they convert.
The more I take care of myself, the more I enjoy the process of building the business instead of feeling like I need to be further ahead.
The more I take care of myself, the more capacity I have when challenges DO arise and can handle them with grace.
I could go on and on because I’ve just seen so much evidence that prioritizing feeling good is the MOST important thing and I’ve seen far more results because of it, not less.
Getting into the energy of receiving rather than hustling
I used to absolutely HATE posts like this.
“Focus on being in the energy of receiving,” they’d say, and I’d wonder what the eff that actually meant and how exactly to make that happen.
And yet, as annoying as it may sound, it’s this shift that made it possible to get 3 yes’es from potential clients in less than 24 hours just a couple of weeks ago along with so many other wins this past year.
I’m at a point in my business where I can tell exactly when I need to make that shift.
I can feel it in my body as my shoulders start to tense up. My mind wanders to the millions of things I’d like to do in my business, all at the same time of course. I begin to feel like I should be further ahead and I should be doing more. Maybe you’re familiar?
And when this happened the other day, I knew I needed to shift it FAST.
Because the way I saw it, I had two options.
I could pile on the pressure, work faster, cross more off my list, and hope that I felt better on the other side…
OR
I could focus on feeling better now and get into the energy of receiving what was meant for me.
And I bet you can guess which one I chose. Yep, I got my booty up and out of my desk chair, put on my running clothes, and took myself out for a run around the lake.
I focused my attention on being grateful for the business that I’ve built, enjoying that I had already HAD my best year in business and didn’t really need to sign another client, and releasing all that dang pressure I was feeling by moving my body.
I also took myself out for a peppermint mocha after because why the hell not.
The thing is, I’ve done this enough to know that it works, but I still find myself delighted when it happens.
I came home to not one, not two, but THREE potential clients letting me know that they’d like to move forward with coaching.
THAT is how quickly things can shift when you shift your thoughts, your feelings, and your energy so you can become a match for what you’re looking to receive. This is the work I do constantly and help my clients to do as well.
The bottom line:
With all the unexpected curveballs that 2020 threw our way, it’s become obvious to me that feeling good is the MOST important thing when it comes to building a business I love.
THIS is the mindset that I’m bringing to 2021 because what I’ve found to be true is that the better I feel, the better my business does.
And I know that the same is true for you.
I’m here to help you shift your mindset so you can take more of the right actions and close more sales to create a successful, thriving business and a beautiful, balanced life you love.
