Three ways you may be sabotaging your sales (plus how to shift it!)
We all do some suuuuuper cute things when we’re baby business owners. And I call them “super cute things” because that’s just about all you can say for them. One of these super cute things I did back in the day (we’re talking six years ago at this point) was a series of posts that I called The May Morning Edit. While not entirely without strategy, the general idea was that each day in May I would post a photo and journal prompt for others to answer and share using the hashtag #maymorningedit. This was back when I was longing to pivot my design studio of 3 years to land my very first coaching clients, without the teensy tiniest clue HOW to actually become known for something entirely different. It was the good ol’ days when Instagram was more about sharing aesthetic photos of your lemon poppyseed pancakes and less about 6-second reels that take 45 minutes to make. Ahh, this post makes me feel like an Elder Millennial in the best way.
Shift these three mindset blocks that may be holding you back from hitting your highest income month yet
I had no idea when I started this business, that THIS would be what it would look like. Sure, I had dreams, goals, planners, vision boards… you name it I’ve tried them all (and they all helped to an extent). But what I couldn’t see at the time was how it would all fit together—how one thing would lead to the next to stack up quite perfectly to make my dreams a reality. Flashback to when hubby and I were running the Airbnb out of the ground floor of our house, alongside running my design studio AND making my best attempt to pivot to coaching… And I can still feel how overwhelmed I was as I folded the top sheet under the mattress and fanned the quilt over the bed before our next guest arrived.
What to post when you don’t know WTF to post to attract more perfect-fit clients
It’s Monday morning and you’ve got a vanilla latte in hand ready to dive into writing posts that attract more perfect-fit clients—the ones that know on a soul level that they just HAVE to work with you. You open up a fresh Google Doc, ready to go, when all of a sudden… you go blank. You sit there staring at that blinking cursor when those thoughts start to creep in… “Do I have anything to say that hasn’t already been said?” “Doesn’t this sound like something ChatGPT could write?” “My follower count is dropping on Instagram… is anyone even reading this?” The mental gymnastics around posting are real, but I also know that they are 100% worth working through because your content is how you’re going to attract more perfect-fit clients. Not only that, but I know that Future You, the version of you with the thriving business and life, posts content with so much more ease and she lands consistent clients because of it. This is because she decided to continue showing up (even when it felt hard) so that one day it could feel SO much easier.
Three questions to ask yourself to hit that next big income month
If nobody has told you lately, that future version of yourself that you spend hours upon hours dreaming about can become your reality—probably way faster than you might think. You know the version. . . The one you envision sitting on a balcony, sipping Chardonnay, watching the sun sink behind cotton candy clouds without a worry about where the next client is coming from. The version of you that has left her draining 9-5 career in finance or design or marketing behind to replace it with a self-run business that brings in triple what her old paychecks were and doesn't need to ask for a day off when she wants it. That version is Future You. You can become her by cultivating the mindset to take more of the right actions in your business—and despite what you may believe right now, you can do it fairly quickly.
The exact sales strategy that led to a $21k sales month
I think back to the early days of my coaching business and I just couldn’t make sense of the numbers I was seeing. 💰 I’d scroll through Facebook groups of online business owners celebrating their $8k sales DAYS or their $15k cash MONTHS (all while floating in a pool in Italy or some other incredible location 💁🏼♀️) and it felt like the furthest thing from my reality. Because honestly? Past Amanda could only DREAM of numbers like that. When I went all in on my pivot to coaching in 2018, I wanted so desperately to land that first client. I wanted to show myself it was possible to pivot away from brand and web design to the coaching work that was on my heart. Deep down, I knew that if I could just land ONE client, I’d feel like I’d made it. I could do it again and again. And yet… I had no idea how to actually become known for something completely different. Not to mention, I lacked the confidence to even talk about something completely different. 😩 Enter mindset work and sales strategy (and a whole heck of a lot of the right support). When I talk about Sincere Sales™ these aren’t just buzzwords to me. It’s a way of BEING that quite literally built this business from the ground up – from zero to six figures.
What REALLY happened when three aligned, high-ticket clients dropped into my world
The last three clients I booked were amazing, aligned, high-ticket clients who dropped into my world. AND I used to effing hate when people would say sh*t like that. 👆🏻 But I think it’s important to break this down and talk about WHY because conversations like these are a big part of what makes Sincere Sales possible in my business. First, I want you to know that I had zero idea that these people were interested in what I had to offer prior to them reaching out with a question or booking a call. Earlier this year I had a client even tell me on a clarity call that she “didn’t even remember my name… only what I looked like” and that she just felt this deep knowing that she had to work with me. It later also came to light that she had watched my Morning Mindset for More Sales trainings on Instagram (in my highlights) and remembered me from there. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds sexy. It is sexy. Trust me, I’m living it. Maybe you even see Future You getting results like these too? ANDDDDD there’s more to it than that. There’s the part that so often gets skimmed over when hearing stories like these.
My Eras Tour takeaways to help you make more money
If you’ve been around here for a while you likely already know I’m a long-time Swiftie. In fact, there was a time in my business when I would celebrate each and every business win with a celebratory dance around my living room to “Shake it Off.” I got a few sideward glances from my pup but other than no one was harmed in the making of my less-than-smooth dance moves. My love for all things Taylor Swift runs so deep that the officiant at my wedding started his speech with the lyrics from “Love Story” so yeah, I’m kinda a fan. 💁🏼♀️ That being said, it should come as no surprise that going to the Eras Tour concert last Friday lit me up in the best way and I have SO much to share with you.
Three mindset shifts to show up consistently and attract ideal clients (even when things feel hard AF)
There I was – red in the face, tears rolling down my cheeks, snot making it difficult to breathe, wondering if this was just how business was going to feel forever. Before you ask: yes, I used to (read: sometimes still do) have the tendency to be a tiiiiny bit dramatic when business doesn’t feel like it’s going my way. I was having what seemed like the millionth coaching call with my business coach where I was convinced that it was the “beginning of the end” and it was “never going to work.” It was the year that I had hit my first $10k month. I was thrilled AND the series of $5k and then $3k months that followed sent me into a tizzy.
The permission you didn’t know you needed to show up and SELL
One scroll of IG can have your head spinning with five million new ideas of how to sell the “right” way – approximately four hundred and ninety-nine million of which you don’t have the time or capacity to take action on at this exact moment. And honestly, who does? I know it can feel confusing AF because the truth is that there’s a place for all of it. There’s a place for every sales strategy. And it ALL works if you work it. So the question becomes… what is it that works for YOU? Today, I’m sharing three game-changing mindset shifts that are the permission you didn’t know you needed to SELL (and feel really damn good doing it!) so you can close more of them.
The mindset that has supported my clients in growing from $2k to $20k months
It might feel like there's some secret that the online business space is keeping from you. If there wasn't, you totally would have hit that juicy $20k month or booked out your client roster for the remainder of 2023 already, right? Well… What I've learned from being in the online space since 2015 (so freaking crazy that it's already been that long) is that there is no secret. But what I've found to be true in building my own six-figure business and helping my amazing Future You clients do the same is that there isn't just one thing. I’m dishing out exactly how powerful mindset support can be, and how I’ve helped multiple clients in growing from $2k to $20k months.
What I’ve learned from my worst sales call ever (to get more “hell yes” clients!)
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some really strange sales calls over the years. But hey, it makes great content, so I’m not exactly mad about it. 😜 I distinctly remember one in particular where the lead was baking cookies during the Zoom call, so she didn’t turn on her camera until halfway through. Yes, really. I can’t make this up. I thought perhaps that would be the turning point in the call, we’d be able to gain some traction… Whelp, I thought wrong.
My absolute favorite mindset work for cultivating confidence and closing sales
“I’ve just always struggled to feel confident enough to grow my business,” I had a client tell me on our first call together. She went on to explain how the inquiries were few and far between making it feel like she was constantly at the whim of everyone else. She was terrified to get on a call with potential clients and when she did get on a call she was afraid to say the wrong thing. She hated the feeling of being interviewed or and dreaded the reaction if she did actually tell people her rates.
